About ME CDCIn 1984, the first cases of AIDS were diagnosed in Maine. As a response to the first cases, the state of Maine created the Office of AIDS. Now known as the HIV, STD and Viral Hepatitis Program, the Program provides HIV prevention and care services to thousands of Mainers across the State. The Program, a part of the Maine Center for Disease Control, receives federal and state funds to support its programs. The Program also works with several community partners to help ensure access to programming.
The Mission of the HIV, STD and Viral Hepatitis Program is: To stop the spread of HIV, STDs and viral hepatitis, to reduce morbidity and mortality related to these diseases, and to promote the health and well being of people who live with or are at risk for contracting them.
About Ryan White Part B in Maine The Ryan White Part B Program strives to improve the health and quality of life of Mainers living with HIV through
- Creating a supportive environment and
- Empowering independence and self-advocacy.
The Program is committed to providing support and education to facilitate the use of streamlined services.
The Ryan White Part B Program in Maine funds HIV Medical Case Management and the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). Medical Case Management is provided at five community sites throughout Maine with the main job of connecting people to medical care and supporting treatment adherence. The ADAP helps to cover the cost of prescription drugs necessary for people living with HIV/AIDS. The ADAP also helps with insurance costs. |
